"Lady" as she was best known to her friends.
A colic episode ended up in surgery at New Bolton and the discovery of a
huge growth in her abdomen that involved the compromise of her small intestine.
Rather than put this remarkable little mare through more pain and an uncertain
future health, her owner made the unselfish decision to let her go. She
had more than earned it in the 12+ years Kim owned her. (An attempt to save
her close-to-term foal was unsuccessful.)
In the 6 years she lived with me, she ruled the roost,
whether turned out in a field of mares or with the stallion that we referred
to as her "husband," Lady was the boss. Their one foal, Post Meridian,
is a composite of them; with her mother's no-nonsense attitude, her father's
joie de vivre and both of their athletic abilities, she is a superstar
unto herself.
I won't soon stop looking for her beautiful little face,
her "satellite dish" ears, her big attitude, or listening for
her distinctive voice. The herd is lost without her. Her daughter is missing
her, as are we.
Enjoy the peace, Lady, coz when Cassie and Kim get to Heaven,
they'll be fighting over who gets to ride you again!!

When I think back on these times
And the dreams we left behind
I'll be glad 'cause I was blessed
To get to have you in my life
When I look back on these days
I'll look and see your face
You were right there for me.
In my dreams I'll always see you soar above the sky
In my heart there will always be a place for you
For all my life I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am, there you'll be . . .
